The letter T - Two birds, Macro Monday

Monk's Hood flowers (Aconitum in latin). When I was a kid my grandfater showed them to me and told me why he called them Doves in the Ark. Maybe you realize why looking at my closeup of an opened flower. Visit Macro Monday

I have heard of Monk’s Hood flowers for years and years but never have seen one. I was thrilled to see your photos. They are beautiful and I love the story your granddaddy told you as a child. It is funny how we remember things like this all of our lives. This is a lovely post and your captures are stunning. Sorry my thumbnail went in 3 times. Mr. Linky kept telling me I had an error and could not post my link. Well, he told a fib and I am so embarrassed. Sorry about that. Genie

That close-up is exquisite, an abstract of swirling muted colors. Then I read your story and say the "doves," and the photo became even more meaningful.

What a great name for them! Beautiful flowers .. I don't grow them because they are so toxic (to dogs, in our case) but they are lovely.

Fun to see a new flower and such a beautifully shaped one too. Neat story from your childhood.

Beautiful images and I will never look at aconitum the same after your wonderful story. When i got mad at deer eating everything I went on a poison plant binge and tried to find lots of monkshood, another common name is wolfbane...
